Did you know that "XO" mean "Hugs and Kisses"? or "Kisses and Hugs"?

Happy Valentine's Day.

Hope you enjoyed your valentine's day with your loved ones especially with your girlfriends or boyfriends. During this day of a year, many people greet each other through sms, e-mail, and call. Many of us use greetings such as "Happy Valentine's Day", "Happy Heart's Day", "Hugs and Kisses", "XO", etc.

Do you know what XO mean? This has two meanings, either "Hugs and Kisses" or "Kisses and Hugs". X means hugs but kisses for others. While O means kisses but hugs for others.

XO = KISSES AND HUGS:

The Oxford English Dictionary states that X is "used to represent a kiss, esp. in the subscription to a letter. There is no general consensus on the origins of the O as a hug. The O could relate to the shape formed when two hands are crossed in a hug, forming a type of O. The 'X' may also refer to the pursing of the lips when kissing.

XO = HUGS AND KISSES:

There is much debate on whether X's represent hugs or kisses. Some argue that X's represent kisses, but due to the "hugs and kisses" paradigm, some contend that 'X' is in fact lined up with the 'hug' and 'O' with the kiss. Also, arms crossing while hugging indicate an X while puckered lips form an O.
